English Proficiency Language Exams

IELTS Exam:-

IELTS Exam has two types:-

TOEFL:-  

TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is another major language proficiency exam for those non-English speakers who are willing to study in Canadian Universities and Colleges.

More than 400+ institutions are accepting TOEFL scores for the admission process. The exam is divided into four parts: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. By doing this whole process this automated software tells the ability or score in English.  

The TOEFL exam is conducted by ETS. The actual fee to give this examination is USD $190 but in Indian rupees, it may vary. 

This examination has two variants:- 

TOEFL iBT Test (Online):- This is an online examination that is conducted by iBT standardised. This examination has four parts, Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. 

In between you can take a 10 minute break after completing the Reading and Listening section. Normally the test takes about 3 hours to complete but you can extend 30 minutes more for check in and revision. The acceptable score for Canadian Tier I and II universities that starts from 90 to above. 

Paper-Based Test(PBT) (Offline):-  The TOEFL Paper based test is divided into four parts and offered in those places where TOEFL (iBT) is not available. The test score of this exam will be accepted by various colleges but many of them give preference to TOEFL – iBT. 

In addition to the scaled sectional scores noted above, students receive a total score for the PBT on a scale of 310 to 677.

PTE (Pearson Language Test):-

Have you heard this test name before? If not then this is another English language proficiency test which opens the doors to get an admission in top Canadian institutions. 

The PTE exam is a totally computer-based exam which measures your speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. All these modules are conducted in a day. 

PTE has three versions:- PTE Academic, General and Young Learners.

PTE Academic:- This version of the exam is specially designed for those candidates who are willing to study or migrate to Canada and other English-speaking countries. 

PTE General:- This exam is specially designed for those who want to analyse their expertise in the English language.

Duolingo English Test:- 

In the study visa world, Duolingo is another standardized English language exam for non-English speakers who want to do higher study in Canada.

DET (Duolingo English Test) is a test organised by Duolingo which was released in 2016. This exam is also known as an adaptive exam that means it will adjust the exam level according to your answers.

Note:- Duolingo will help to get an admission in canadian institutions but for Canada visa you should have to foucs on centre based. 

CELPIP Test:-

After the IELTS. CELPIP is the second language proficiency exam that is recognized by IRCC(Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada). CELPIP stands for Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program.

Like others this exam has four modules: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The CELPIP – General evaluates test taker’s English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. But in CELPIP – LS evaluates only English listening and speaking. 

More than 25+ Canadian institutes are accepting CELPIP exam score for the admission process. That’s not help you here but it will help in the immigration process. The fee of the examination is $280 + Taxes. 

French Proficiency Tests:-

In the largest continent French is a second language which is widely accepted in the Quebec province. There are some other regions that accept French language tests for the study visa process. 

This kind of test specially measures your command of the French language. To prove your fluency in french language you must have to achieve some desired score as per the Canadian Colleges and Universities requirements.

Test d’évaluation du français (TEF):- 

TEF or Test d’évaluation du français is an international benchmark that refers to a test to check your fluency level in the French language.

Academic Exams For Study in Canada

Besides English and French language proficiency tests some Canadian Institutions are  accepting some academic exams for their admission process. There are various university and college requirements but some are very common like: GRE, GMAT and SAT. 

Graduate Record Examination (GRE):- 

GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a standardised exam which is highly required to get admissions in top ranked universities of Canada and U.S. This is one of the academic examinations which are required to pursue MS and MBA in western countries.

The nature of this examination consists of three major parts:- Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Reasoning, Critical and Analytical thinking. The score scale for this examination starts from 130 – 170. Many of the top ranked universities require this exam to get admission in Canada Colleges and Universities. 

There are more than 10 universities that require a GRE exam score to get an admission. But it varies from university to university and the cost will be $200 USD.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT):-  

GMAT stands for graduate management admission standardized test which assesses your ability in analytical writing assessment, verbal reasoning, integrated reasoning and quantitative reasoning by conducting computer based & MCQ exam. 

The purpose of this examination is to get an admission in top reputed business schools institutions to pursue MBA and MS in canada.

GMAT is originally owned and conducted by GMAC(Graduate Management Admission Council). The time duration of this examination is 3 hours 30 minutes and valid for 5 years.

Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT):- 

SAT is another demanding aptitude exam to become the part of study in canada admission process. This exam measures your ability on reading, writing and maths comprehension of candidates and tests the level of solution of problems. 

This is a completely paper pencil based exam which is conducted by the College Board organisation. The examination fee of this test is $104 and total time given to all candidates is 3 hours.

The Law School Admission Test or LSAT:-

LSAT is one of the reputed and rarely exam which is hardly given by candidates but the accepting rate of this examination is high in Canada, U.S.A. 

LSAT acronym by The Law School Admission Test which is originally handled by Law School Admission Council. This examination made for check the ability of candidates who wanting to get admission in law schools.
